Wind is the main natural resource for power generation (one of the main sources of renewable energy, steadily increasing); but the conversion of a force so impetuous, poorly predictable and hard to manage require numerous steps through complex mechanical systems, rather expensive. From the ancient wood and fabric mills to modern wind towers able to develop over 3 MeW it’s been a long way. Nowadays the electronic technology, in addition to the hydraulic system, allow for fine adjustment of the incoming energy, making the downstream production something manageable in the distribution network.
One of the key elements on which such processes are based remains the mechanical speed adjustment system (by using complex planetary gearboxes) in which the lubricant plays a vital role. By ensuring the proper cleanliness level of such systems to avoid the spreading of machines’ wear and accelerate lubricants’ ageing is essential to manage a production without bad surprises.
That’s why Vestas Italy in the standpoint of improving the actual procedures, and in order to set up a more effective conditions’ monitoring program, organized at his headquarters of San Giorgio Ionico a day of “full immersion” on the best practices of lubrication in partnership with Mecoil.
16 students very involved in these topics attended the class, with our Eng. Mariani as a qualified trainer.
